Alright, while at home, I started to really listen to the styles of speech of the people living with me. My grandma has a strong New York accent. This shows more apparently with similar words. For example: "I'm gonna go and get a cup of coffee" (pronounced caw-fee), or "Could ya get me a glass of water?" Even though different letters are used, the first syllables of both of those words sound exactly the same when my grandma says them. My cousin has a tendency to use abbreviations and cut off his words, for example, "I'm bout to go to work". He also combines words: "Nah'm sayin'?", as opposed to "know what I'm saying?"
While on campus, there many different styles of speech. In the area that I was, there was a group of students at a table next to me in the food court. Most of them had the same general style of speech, but there was one that stood out. He had a very strong spanish accent. "Look what you did" was said as "loo wha you deed". I also noticed that on some words, he would pronounce the letter 'u' almost like an 'o': "I'm hongry" and "he ponched him in the face" are a few examples of this.

re: Sound listening exercise description: Area 3 by UNYC2
I see this person outdoors, probably on a patio or balcony. I can see a fan in the close proximity. I think the fan is within feet of them. It is a nice summer day outside and there is at least one bird, perched in a tree, above the person. There is a nice breeze that blows by, causing the leaves around the person to rustle gently. This patio is probably in the back of the house, and the person can next hear a car coming towards them. In the car is a young person, listening to either the rock station or one of their CD's. The car gets closer and closer, then eventually passes the person's house.
After the car passes by, the person's neighbor that lives above them comes out on their own patio to enjoy the nice sumer weather. The neighbor brought with them something to eat, more than likely a small bag of potato chips. Meanwhile, a bee flies by the person's ear. Shortly after, a bird of some sort flies over the house, starting from the front and heading toward the rear. Lastly, I see a wooded area in front of the person, with twigs on the ground. A small animal, or maybe even a person, has walked by and stepped on one of the twigs.

Guess where I am.......
Alright, so I'm going to describe 3 places using just sounds that I heard in the area, and I want to
see if you can guess where I am.
Location 1
I hear several conversations all around me. There are several televisions that I can hear in the area. I can hear several video game sounds behind me. Far off ahead of me, I can hear an ice machine, plastic trays clanging together, and a vacuum. I can hear chairs being pulled out all around me. To my left, I can hear a door being opened. Above me, I can hear a fan, probably an air conditioner.
Location 2
Not much to work with here, but here it goes. Above me, I can hear the whooshing of a fan. I can hear a television to my right. I can also hear a toilet flushing, but not as close. To my immediate left, I can hear the whooshing of a fan, but it is very faint. To my rear, I can hear a machine drying clothes.
Location 3
I can hear conversations all around me, as well as footsteps, and a consistent beeping sound. Also, there is the thunking sound of a drawer opening and closing. I can hear the sound of wheels on tiled floor in all directions. To my left, I can hear the wrinkling of plastic, and the crumpling of paper. Directly behind me, I can hear a set of automatic sliding doors. To my right, I can hear cardboard boxes being opened. Every so often, I will hear a baby crying. To my left, I can hear the sweeping of a broom.
see if you can guess where I am.

You want to know about me?
Hello, everyone. I go by the name of Anthony. I was born in New York City, and I moved to Orlando, FL when I was 13. Right now, I am a digital media major at UCF, but I am taking some courses at VCC to have my A.A. by the end of this summer. Hopefully, I will be returning to UCF in the fall, and eventually going on to become a game designer.
